Paper-cut art is one of Chinese folk arts. Through paper-cutting activities, let children learn the skills and steps of paper-cutting and origami, such as: the method of folding paper in half, using scissors to cut out simple shapes and the method of uncovering paper, etc. During the process, let the children develop their creativity and use a pair of small hands to cut out their own paper-cut works of art. In the Chinese Culture Exhibition, display children’s paper-cut art works and learn to appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese paper-cut art.

Brief Descriptions

The Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) marks the beginning of the Chinese lunar calendar and is the most solemn and lively ancient traditional festival among the people. By making Koi Fish Chinese rice cakes, children can understand the symbolic meaning behind them and deepen their understanding of traditional food. The teacher demonstrated the basic steps of making rice cakes, and the children made their own koi fish rice cakes. Once finished, the children were encouraged to take them home and share with their families. Through this activity, children can experience the joy of preparing food, learn the traditional methods of making festival food, and play a significant role in preserving and inheriting our cultural heritage.

Objectives

Brief Descriptions

During the presentation of traditional Knots, the teacher and children discuss the characteristics of knots after observation and explorations, such as ways to knit a knot or the matching of accessories and knots.
First, to show pictures of traditional costumes to guide children to consider why ancient people wore knots, and to share the meaning and the use of making knots. Finally, children learn to knit an Auspicious Knot and decorate the knot with beads, thus, cultivating children’s interest in Chinese culture.
