Brief Descriptions

The “Dragon Boat Festival” falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. The activity allows children to understand the origin and customs of Dragon Boat Festival, telling the story of Qu Yuan and the origin of dragon boat racing.
Through the “Making Zongzi” activity, children can learn about the different materials used to make Zongzi (glutinous rice, mung beans, pork, egg yolks and glutinous rice leaves), the steps of making Zongzi, and try to put the materials on the leaves.
During the sharing activity, children were allowed to open cooked rice dumplings, observe the difference between raw and cooked rice dumplings, and taste the traditional food “rice dumplings” together.

Objectives

・Know the method of paper-cutting and half-folding skills.
・Let children master small muscle control skills.
・Cultivate children to appreciate traditional Chinese art.

Brief Descriptions

Paper-cut art is one of Chinese folk arts. Through paper-cutting activities, let children learn the skills and steps of paper-cutting and origami, such as: the method of folding paper in half, using scissors to cut out simple shapes and the method of uncovering paper, etc. During the process, let the children develop their creativity and use a pair of small hands to cut out their own paper-cut works of art. In the Chinese Culture Exhibition, display children’s paper-cut art works and learn to appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese paper-cut art.

Objectives

・Recognize the basic characteristics of Chinese facial makeup (shape, color and pattern).
・Train hand-eye coordination ability.
・Learn to appreciate the makeup patterns on the faces of traditional opera actors.

Brief Descriptions

Facial makeup is the painting on the faces of traditional opera actors and is one of the traditional Chinese arts. By appreciating videos and pictures, children can observe the different shapes of facial makeup and understand the basic characteristics of Chinese facial makeup (most facial makeup is symmetrical, and different figures and roles have different patterns). During the process, children are taught the basic procedures and steps of facial painting, and children are guided to abide by specific specifications in their free creations. After the activity is completed, children’s works are displayed to create an atmosphere that promotes traditional art.
